Firm protects woman's employment, winning favorable ruling in pregnancy discrimination case

April 9, 2014

Heller Huron and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs wins trial in federal district court in Baltimore in which jury finds that their client, Aieda McCallum, was fired from her job with Archstone (a residential apartment management company) because she disclosed that she was pregnant with twins. Ms. McCallum will receive reimbursement of all back pay and benefits she was denied due to the discrimination, and compensatory damages for the emotional distress and humiliation she suffered. Previously, the trial court rejected a motion by Archstone to throw the case out on summary judgment, finding more than adequate evidence for the jury to find in the plaintiff’s favor.
